Spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in Thailand answers reporters' questions
2025-06-10 20:07

Q: Recently, there have been media reports that heavy metal levels in rivers such as the Kok River and the Sai River in Thailand have exceeded the standard, which is suspected to be caused by mining activities of Chinese companies in Myanmar. What is the comment of the Chinese Embassy?

A: China is highly concerned about the heavy metal pollution incident in the tributaries of the Mekong River in Thailand. We have noted the recent testing reports released by the Thai government and relevant local authorities. We support Thailand and Myanmar to strengthen communication and coordination, conduct scientific and responsible investigations, and resolve the issue through friendly consultations. China has always required overseas Chinese companies to abide by the laws of the host countries and operate legally and in compliance with regulations. China is willing to work closely with the countries in the Mekong River Basin to jointly protect the ecological environment and water quality of the basin.
